Carrie the Backpack Day is a community-wide day of action in support of HDSB students who need a helping hand to start the school year with confidence.

HLF invites local businesses and organizations to join us on Friday, September 19, 2025, for an inspiring opportunity to rally your team and help support HDSB students as they embark on a stronger, more confident school year.

Carrie the Backpack is the friendly, animated mascot for our 2025 Back to School Campaign, dedicated to fundraising for HDSB students as the new school year begins.

Why “Carrie the Backpack”?
HLF provides emergency financial support for students throughout the year, because no student should struggle to learn due to a lack of basic essentials. Backpacks represent the heavy burden many students carry, often invisible to others, like hunger, stress, and the weight of financial hardship.

On Carrie the Backpack Day, we encourage individuals and organizations to carry the cause by helping lift those burdens.

Even small actions can spark big change. By participating, your organization becomes part of a powerful movement to raise awareness, inspire empathy, and ensure every student starts the year with dignity, confidence, and hope.
