Halton Learning Foundation Month Calls on the Halton Community to Rally Support for Local Students
2,000 HDSB students have received emergency assistance since the beginning of this school year
The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is proud to launch its third annual HLF Month this April. Dedicated to removing financial barriers for students in the Halton District School Board (HDSB), this month-long initiative brings together HDSB schools, local businesses, and community members to ensure every student has access to essentials like school supplies, meals, and extracurricular opportunities.
HLF officially kicked off the month with its annual flag-raising event at the Halton District School Board headquarters, where board leaders, staff, and community supporters gathered to mark the beginning of the HLF Month and the impact we can make together.
“No student should have to choose between learning and basic needs,” said Marc Clare, HLF CEO. “HLF Month is our community’s chance to come together and make sure every student has what they need to succeed.”
With over 2,000 students already supported this school year, HLF’s role has never been more critical. Since its founding in 2004, the organization has assisted nearly 30,000 students by providing emergency funding for food, clothing, school supplies, access to school programs, and scholarships.
Schools, businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to get involved during HLF Month by hosting fundraisers, launching workplace or school challenges, raising awareness, or making a donation.
A highlight of the month is Students in the Spotlight, an annual fundraising showcase celebrating the talents of HDSB students. Taking place on April 29 at 6:00 PM at Burlington Central High School, the event will feature student performances and an art exhibition while raising funds to support their peers.
“We are proud to provide a platform for students to shine while supporting one another,” said Marc Clare. “It’s a celebration of talent and community, where every ticket helps remove barriers to education.”
Tour de Halton continues as part of HLF Month, inviting the community to take action in a whole new way. Whether you walk, run, or cycle, you can create your own Tour de Halton single-day or multi-day challenge and turn it into a fundraiser in support of local students. Gather your team, set your goal, and be part of a movement that’s helping students across Halton succeed.
HLF’s CEO, Marc Clare, is creating his own team and will be cycling across Halton for more than 100 KM on April 23, to raise awareness and funds for HDSB students struggling with financial barriers.
Thanks to belairdirect, donations made during HLF Month will be matched up to $10,000, helping us support twice as many students across Halton.
